Italian term or phrase: materico/matericità
I often translate catalogues and I see this word every now and then in Italian. I am usually able to interpret it or work around it by using versions of the word "material(s)" or "material-based". But I wanted to get your take. Here's some context (we are talking about furniture, materials, and fabrics)

And here's an example

"essenzialità e ritorno al materico"

Explanation:
First of all, I hate this word because it's ALL OVER THE PLACE (especially for ceramic tiles) and I've never found a satisfying, convincing translation, so I'm looking forward to other answers.

These are some options I've used.

(Another hated word is valorizzare/valorizzazione - enhance/enhancement, really?)

Notes to answerer
Asker: I absolutely agree! Another word Italians love to sprinkle like prezzemolo is "caratterizzato" :)

neutral  philgoddard: I don't think all the materials shown in Enrica's article can be described as earthy, and not all of them are textured either. Texture is only a part of it.

-> I agree! Which is one of the problems of this word. It's used in many different ways and there's no 1 good translation for all cases.

choice of/focus on materials

Explanation:
For example, your headline "Un anno all’insegna della matericità" could be "A renewed focus on materials". I think the idea is choosing materials that have visual and textural impact and are right for the job.

tactile/texture

Explanation:
The term refers to how a material feels! Un "ritorno al materico" could be a "return to texture". Of course, materials with interesting textures also make a visual statement as well, so, it could also refer to how textures look.
