In sostanza non sono permessi contratti di responsabilità civile autoveicoli di durata inferiore all’anno, ma solamente contratti di durata pari all’anno o, su richiesta dell’assicurato, a un anno più frazione di esso, che serve di norma ad allineare le scadenze delle proprie polizze a date desiderate dall’assicurato. Si parla in questo caso di "ratino", che è l'unico modo in cui potremmo assicurare l'auto per un mese, ma con obbligo di rinnovo per l'anno successivo.
Facciamo un esempio:
Il signor Bianchi, per allineare la scadenza della polizza alla data in cui riceverà la tredicesima, stipula una polizza rc auto di 13 mesi, comprensiva di un ratino di 1 mese e poi di una rata annuale successiva.
