Italian term or phrase: conciossiaché
The way conciossiaché is used in this sentence does not accord with any of the known meanings of the term I've been able to find online.

"Da quella cospirazione [socialismo e comunismo] non è per derivare nel popolo una benché lieve felicità, ma uno spaventoso accrescimento di miserie e di calamità. ***Conciossiaché ***non è in potere degli uomini il fondare nuove società e comunanze contrarie alla natural condizione delle cose umane: per la qual cosa il frutto di queste cospirazioni..."

Conciossiaché: for, as, since.

The second sentence does not necessarily logically follow from the first, IF the word conciossiache is translated as "since". And I can't think of or find any alternatives that would make these two sentences have some logical continuity. A general rule can derive from two individual instances, (translating conciossiaché as "therefore"). And if I translate "for", the sentence does not make sense, as men CAN found societies contrary to the natural order of things (albeit perhaps short-lived ones).

The words are from Pius IX's encyclical of communism and socialism.

Thank you,

Peter

this, at least, seems to be the official translation (see link) - see paragraph 25.

As for y(our) doubts, discussing popes' mastery of rational thinking is probably not within the scope of Proz.com...

agree  philgoddard: I'think people often wrongly regard translations as "official" and set in stone, but this one clearly is.
