Italian term or phrase: future in the past
Hi everyone! Can someone help me with this question from Italian into English? "Io non ho chiuso la porta a chiave perché poi sarebbe andato Mario a chiuderla (I don't know if he really did it) Do I have to use "WOULD GO" or would be better to use "WOULD HAVE GONE"? Is it a future in the past sentence? Thanks!

because Mario would then have gone and closed it

Explanation:
I think this is the correct translation of the phrase as it stands, though there still seems to be something wrong with the logic somewhere.

Would not "was supposed to go" be rendered by "doveva andare" or "avrebbe dovuto andare" (more in the direction of should have gone) in Italian?

Notes to answerer
Asker: What is the difference between "would go" and "would have gone" in this sentence? Does the second option mean that the action won't take place in the future?

Asker: Frankly I agreed with Giuseppe Bellone because it seems to be afuture in the past. Present; "I do not lock the door because Mario will go there later", Past: "I did not lock the door because Mario would go there later". This would explain also the sentence I found in a book "I talked to the shy girl so that she would not feel left out".

since Mario was getting to go and lock it later

Explanation:
I would rather use the verb lock for 'chiudere a chiave'

I have not locked the door..
non è che si suppone che lo faccia (non c'è il dubbio) POI+CHE' è certo che Mario lo farà dopo.
