In Spanish medical texts, "ambulante" is very common and I translate it as "outpatient" without hesitation. I believe the Italian term is "ambulatoriale" ... but maybe the writer got mixed up, or possibly has a Spanish language background? I would think that in this case, it makes sense to believe this means outpatient (=on an outpatient basis) because the patient e' rientrato (was re-admitted to the hospital) later. There are thousands of instances of the Italian "a livello ambulatoriale" in Google

Il mio ragionamento si basava appunto sul fatto che ritengo improbabile che dei "radiologi" possano posizionare una PEG in Italia a livello ambulatoriale.
In Svizzera invece lo ritengo molto più verosimile anche dal punto di vista della specializzazione del radiologo interventista.
Però non vale. Dovevi dirlo subito. Scherzo.
Comunque l'espressione "a livello ambulante" è proprio brutta.

Outpatient placement makes the most sense to me, thanks Fiona. As for the radiologist part of it, even if this procedure isn't usually performed by radiologists, this seems to be what the texts says so I'm inclined to go with that. If it makes any difference Luigi, this is a Swiss text.

I think you're right Emily, that it was inserted on an outpatient basis.

Personalmente, ma posso sbagliarmi, i radiologi interventisti in Italia sono rarissimi. In genere è il chirurgo (gastroenterologo probabilmente in questo caso) che esegue l'intervento assistitito dalle tecniche radiologiche e (forse) da un radiologo. Ma, ripeto, potrei sbagliarmi. Per quanta riguarda la mia interpretazione, escludo che un intervento del genere posse essere condotto a livello ambulatoriale

Yes, I also considered whether it was placed so that the patient could still walk around but it's really not clear, as you say. I've asked the client for clarity on this sentence, I'll see if they come back with anything and let you know.

Pessimo testo, tale da richiedere un doppia traduzione. La prima dal "medichese" in italiano. La seconda dall'italiano in inglese. La mia prima perplessità riguarda il fatto che la procedura sia stata effettuata da radiologi?!?. Che io sappia, la fistola viene creata guidando la manovra con "tecniche radiologiche" ma non da radiologi. Mi piacerebbe sentire altri pareri a proposito. Comunque, una personale e possibile interpretazione di "ambulante" è che la PEG sia stata inserita in modo tale da consentire al paziente di poter camminare regolarmente una volta ristabilitosi (?) o comunque dimesso dall'ospedale.
