Italian term or phrase: Pancolonscopia di base
This is in a list of appointments women should have to prevent certain cancers.

"pancoloscopy" only has about 30 results on google.

I understand that "pan" means "all", so it is an exam of the entire bowel. Just not sure what the term is in english to describe this?

Thank you in advance.

Colonoscopy
Explanation:
There's no need to translate basic here.

Hi Bethany, I understand that it can be confusing but please read again. There is no difference between the two terms in Italian, they are synonyms, while in English there's only one term to describe it and that's colonoscopy.

screening colonoscopy

Explanation:
A screening colonoscopy is a preventative procedure for patients who have no symptoms of colon cancer. If a patient has related symptoms or has a polyp removed during a screening colonoscopy procedure, it automatically becomes a diagnostic colonoscopy.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks for this. My only confusion is that in this description it clearly says there is a difference between colonoscopia and pancolonoscopia - so shouldn't the english term also differ?

agree  Lirka: @Asker: Colonoscopy suffices (see my discussion entry), but you can add "total" if you want to stress the "pan" part (and to placate any less knowledgeable client/translation company)

Standard colonoscopy

Explanation:
"di base" means it's a routine exam, the one doctors mean when they talk about colonoscopy (no special testing/feature added to the standard exam). You could also use the term "standard colonoscopy screening"

as for the term "Pan" it derives from ancient greek and it means "whole", so in this case the whole bowel is being screened.
If you prefer you could also use the term "whole-colon investigation by colonoscopy" but as someone before me already pointed out there isn't really a precise term for the procedure in English as there is in Italian.
