Italian term or phrase: avvicinamento
Can someone help me with the English equivalent of the Italian term "avvicinamento" referring to the way a "corporate font" should be used in documentation... "interlinea 12 pt, avvicinamento -10". I had thought about "kerning", but that should be "crenatura". Any ideas? Thanks.

Explanation:
Could be tracking, but I'm not certain. Similar to kerning, but does not take individual character pairs into account (e.g. spaces all glyphs equally)

agree  Roberta Anderson: yes, it is tracking - as you say, kerning is only between pairs, while tracking is applied to wider rnge of text, like a whole line or paragraph. It's used in InDesign.
