Hi,

I'm trying to find a good English equivalent for this phrase, "a nuovo titolo". Here's the sentence from the source material:

"Questa nuova situazione è indicata come una particolare nuova unzione operata dallo Spirito Santo, che rende la vergine unita con vincolo indissolubile a Cristo e dedicata a Dio ***a nuovo titolo***: «nova vos spiritáli unctióne exórnat novóque título divínae dicat Maie- státi; itémque vos, ad sponsae Christi dignitátem provéctas, indissolúbili vínculo Dei Fílio coniúngit»(my attempt at the Latin: you are adorned by a new spiritual anointing and are called by a new title of the divine Majesty...etc.).

The context is the Rite of Consecration of Virgins of the Catholic Church, and the ceremony that uses that rite. So it's referring here to the consecration of the virgin by that ceremony, and the new status of the virgin who has been consecrated.

It seems to quite literally by "by a new title", that is, in a way that falls under a new heading or category, and thus has a new name. But I'm stumped as to how to put it, other than a literal translation.

I'm not Catholic or a theologian, which may be what's needed for a valid translation, but I think this is a renaming in the nature of a baptism. See p. 68 of the cited link.

Asker: It has to be harmonized w/ "dedicata a Dio", though. Dedicated to God with a new title, or by a new right, something like that.

neutral  mrrafe: Possible, but that suggests an award to exalt the candidate as in the case of a military "decoration." I think this rite is more about ratifying her religious commitments, including modesty which is sort of inconsistent with adornment.
