I'm completely stuck and am tying myself in knots with this. The document I'm translating refers to the visual merchandising for a chain of clothes/shoe shops. In this case it is referring to the display of clothing on hanging rails:

La gestione dei frontali e dei laterali delle appenderie deve essere utilizzata in maniera corretta per far risultare l’esposizione del prodotto gradevole visivamente e in linea con gli obiettivi commerciali. L'esposizione frontale è di tipo ***contenitiva*** ed è indicata per contenere il prodotto con più taglie. L'esposizione laterale visibile al cliente è di tipo aggregativa ed è indicata per associare più prodotti e meno taglie.

It's not helping me that the document shows two images where the front-facing rail shows the caption "AGGREGATO" and the side-facing rail shows the caption "CONTENITIVO"!

The term also appears in this sentence:

"L'esposizione del prodotto deve seguire la composizione delle strutture sulla base degli spazi **contenitivi** e aggregativi disponibili e il layout finale deve presentare un'esposizione equilibrata, armonica e dinamica."

the meaning of "contenitiva" is stocking, so the way I read it is the rack should be used to stock/store different sizes of the same product/garment, while the side rack (the first thing seen by the customer) should be used to display different models but not in as many sizes. One is for storage, the other for display (showcase). The way I picture it, the side-facing rail would actually face the main isle of the store if not the entrance.
