Ancora oggi su una lapide di marmo bianco dell’ex forte austroungarico di Gschwendt-Belvedere si può leggere: "Nell’anno 1935 S. M. Vittorio Emanuele III, re d’Italia, visitava questo forte, reso al silenzio dalla vittoria italiana". Caratteri incisi che ricordano la ***linea avanzata del fronte***, trasformata in un formidabile sbarramento di sette fortezze progettate dal generale austriaco Konrad von Hötzendorf. Tra queste l’unica rimasta totalmente integra è proprio Forte Belvedere di Lavarone, trasformato in un piccolo museo. A differenza delle altre fortezze, disponeva di un avanforte corazzato separato dal corpo centrale da un fossato scavato nella roccia e collegato da corridoi sotterranei. L’armamento era composto da 3 obici da 100 mm collocati in una cupola girevole oltre a cannoni e cannoncini. La cittadella fortificata ospitava 3 ufficiali, 138 artiglieri e 60 territoriali.
