backlash Explanation: The word "巻き戻し" evokes an image of a spring, coiled up to its limit, starts to recoil with a sudden burst. Merriam Webster defines backlash as "a strong adverse reaction (as to a recent political or social development)" Reference: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/backlash |

bubble reversal Explanation: Please note that this is not my area of specialty. 巻き戻し means to rewind, and when we rewind something (a VHS), we reverse the advance that has occurred, perhaps slightly (rewind to a previous scene), perhaps to its original state (rewind to the beginning), or perhaps to an even further reversed state (rewind to the beginning after starting midway). I can imagine the same happening with a financial bubble. It can be slightly reversed, things can return to their original state, or you can even end up in worse conditions. Now I'm pretty sure we don't use rewind with financial bubbles, but it seems that reversal might be appropriate. "If your goal is to spot a bubble for the sake of avoiding the reversal..." (http://www.finweb.com/investing/how-to-spot-a-bubble-in-comm... "And I treat bubbles as largely unpredictable. The direction and its eventual reversal are predictable..." (http://www.georgesoros.com/interviews-speeches/entry/remarks... "The absent of the reversal behaviour after the crisis could be due to the reason that investors are more aware of the overreaction phenomenon and have altered their trading strategy." (http://www.eurojournals.com/jmib_11_08.pdf) I have proposed "bubble reversal" to match your term, but the most natural usage (word order) would need to be selected based on context and how you choose to form your sentence. |

The contraction was big after the bubble economy. Explanation: The entire economy contracts when consumption and investments are reduced due to 逆資産効果 (the negative wealth effect). I guess you could translate 'バブルの巻き戻しが大ききかった' as 'the economic contraction was big (due to the negative wealth effect)'. So I would translate 'The contraction was big after the bubble economy due to the negative wealth effect'. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 10 hrs (2012-09-23 01:21:36 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- 巻き戻し http://fx.saisun.net/jiten/ma335.html Reference: http://money.infobank.co.jp/contents/K200163.htm |
