We defend upholding the law Explanation: Latin Dictionary Literally it means we defend (protect) upholding, and "law" is understood. There are different ways of translating: "sustineo - tinere - tinui (With a macron over the respective vowels - I don't know how to do that on the computer: tr. to hold up, support; to hold back, hold in check; to uphold (the law); to sustain, suport (w. food, etc.); to hear, endure (trouble); to hold up, delay, put off" Now, if any of these other meanings are more appropriate for the circumstances of the particular badge, the corresponding translations should be substituted. The first verb can mean "protect" also. Since you said it was a "badge", assuming it is some type of enforcement I chose "uphold' in this context. Mike :) |

We guard/We take care/We watch+enduring/supporting/delaying/restraining Explanation: Not knowing what the badge is for, I can only say that it is a combination of the following: FROM THE VERBS: CUSTODIO:[to guard , watch, keep, take care of; to keep in sight, observe; to keep in prison, hold captive].CUSTODIMUS: We guard/We take care of... SUSTINEO:[to hold up , support, sustain]; with infin., [to endure to, have the heart to]; [to maintain; to put off, delay; to hold back, check, restrain].SUSTINENTES: supporting, enduring, maintaining, delaying..... |
