Norwegian term or phrase: Grensetrekking
I innledningskapittelet argumenterer vi for at grensetrekking ikke bare handler om staters fysiske markering av territorium og suverenitetskrav, men også om innbyggernes (spesielt de som bor i grenseområder) sine romlige praksiser over tid.

Demarcation was the word that originally occurred to me, but perhaps not in this context of a political border.

Construction of boundaries

Explanation:
The construction of boundaries as an anthropological concept was established by Norwegian anthropologist Fredrik Barth in "Ethnic groups and boundaries" (1969). It is the concept of boundaries being the subject of constant negotiation and reproduction between different ethnic groups (and, in its logical extension, nations).

The entire sentence would be something like this:

"In the introductory chapter we argue that the construction of boundaries does not only include the physical delineation of a nation state's territory and sovereignty, but also its citizens' spatial practices over time, especially those living in border areas."
