I agree with you Michele that some people eat at their desk, sometimes. But where I have worked and work, a 'felles lunsj' is what is preferred, of course depending on the type of work. It may also indicate a 'gathering' in some contexts, e.g. when the student year starts, at a seminar, etc. But this is part of instructions to staff, ...

I think the 'felles' indicates a gathering, i.e. same place, same time. Some places where I worked in Norway people would take out their 'matpakke' and eat at their desk whenever they wanted. Nothing really 'felles' about it then.
