English translation: pre-discharge meeting

Norwegian term or phrase: utskrivningssamtale
A meeting between patient and health personnel prior to discharge from hospital. I found "discharge interview" in some academic texts but not enough to convince me that this is the best term. "pre-discharge meeting" is a stronger contender, but maybe someone has an even more widely-used term for this?

As was pointed out, it would depend on the form which such a "samtale" takes, and the client was happy with this solution here. Thanks, lingo

discharge debriefing

Explanation:
This is where e.g. a doctor discusses the reason for admission to hospital, the treatment given, the follow-up care etc with the patient, or maybe a midwife debriefs a new mother re her birth experience, which may have been at home or in hospital. There is a good example of this in the first reference. A pre-discharge meeting is different and is where a patient may need other care at home or in the community, involving other health care teams, physios, social workers, etc

pre-discharge talk

Explanation:
"Pre-discharge talk" and "discharge talk" are both used in this context.
I think personally that "talk" is a better and equally informal translation of "samtale" than "meeting" and "interview".

It is true what you say, however it is not exactly a technical term nor a medical term, I wouldn't expect it to be many hits for it as it is just an everyday term if you like and not "worth" the appearance in a document online. Do you catch my drift? A better suggestion, than searching online, would be to phone a hospital and ask them what it is called... :)

Example sentence(s):
  • During the pre-discharge talk on the ward, your physiotherapist will inform you of your nearest available programme and your details will be faxed to the District Cardiac Rehabilitation Co-ordinator.
  • In preparation for you going home a discharge talk will be given to you and your carer by a member of the Transplant Team. The Transplant Clinic Staff will answer any queries you may have about your follow-up.

Notes to answerer
Asker: I agree with your comment on "talk" being better than "meeting" and "interview", Kjersti, but when I get only 500-odd hits for one of these and only a handful for the other, I wonder whether there is a term that is more widely used in the UK.

I guess it depends on what the Norwegian involves. Is it just a quick word or a more formal affair?

I've only ever been given a card for the local taxi firm, while my granny has major meetings with doctors and social services and so on before being sent home
