counterair Explanation: just a suggestion since I can't find the meaning of the norwegian term http://usmilitary.about.com/od/glossarytermsc/g/counterair.h... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 52 mins (2009-01-22 13:15:49 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- 'Offensive kontraluftoperasjoner har til hensikt å ødelegge, forstyrre eller begrense motstanderens luftmakt så nær kilden som mulig. Then, they seem to have the same meaning as my suggestion.. |

combat airpower Explanation: The U.S. Air Force uses "combat airpower" in describing the mission of its Air Combat Command. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 13 mins (2009-01-22 12:36:40 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I just took a look at the source online: http://www.regjeringen.no/nn/dep/fd/Dokument/Proposisjonar-o... "Air combat" works better in the paragraph in question. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 26 mins (2009-01-22 12:50:16 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- "Combat airpower" might be too broad as you say. The problem is that the USAF distinguishes air combat from air mobility in its commands (and formerly distinguished a strategic air command as well.) See http://www.af.mil/sites/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strategic_Air_Command. I suppose "tactical air combat" might be better. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 5 hrs (2009-01-22 17:34:05 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Diarmuid, I'm going to settle on "air-to-air combat" as my "final answer." It was actually my first thought and I should have stuck with it. See http://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/ec_635/ for an example of the usage in conjunction with "ground support." anti-air Explanation: I think it is most common to say anti-air as well as anti-aircraft... Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-aircraft |
