The Ten Commandments Explanation: Sorry, I lost my first attempt at an answer - .... It is not so much a question of different versions as variations on them in different parts of the Bible. Apart from the Deuteronomy version, there is one in Exodus, or 2. Mosebog 20, on the site referred to by Diarmuid. Here they are in English, side by side. http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/comm... Jesus summed them up in in New Testament in two commandments: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew 22:37-39... From that site you can compare different translations in different languages - the NIV is more up to date than the King James version. There is no need to discuss which is ´better´ - but I would recommend reading a good modern translation first if you are studying the Bible as a linguist. We do not speak quite the same language as King James, Tyndale, Coverdale and Wycliffe, and it should be read in the same way as one reads Shakespeare - with awareness that the meanings of some words may have shifted. Wikipedia discusses the Commandments at some length here, with reference to Judaism and Islam. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2011-11-16 13:31:59 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Here is the Wikipedia link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Commandments |

Reference: Norwegian Reference information: http://www.bibel.no/Hovedmeny/Nettbibelen.aspx?book=DEU&chap... The King James bible is probably the most popular version of the English Bible, you could use that? Anyway, my experience of religion is that you are bound to offend someone :o) |
