Tech/Engineering - Ships, Sailing, Maritime / wooden sailing ships, whaling pirates etc
Norwegian term or phrase: bajeren, klabajer, baier, klabaier
an area of the ship.
I get one online reference, but it aint good enough.

laths or battens nailed under the beams.
As always, these terms are similar in danish and dutch, as many such terms either came from Norway and the Vikings, them in quantity from the dutch.

deckhead stowage

Explanation:
Regret I am away from all my reference books, but I wonder if this would fit from your description?
Maybe 'locker' could be added.

There is a link (probably through Dutch again) to the English 'bay' as in sick bay , powder bay etc, but these are usually larger compartments between two decks.
