agree  A.G.: re: front (why?). Shaft end face would be definitely better/ Just 'end'. The orientation of any shaft is application specific, e.g. wet/dry shaft end in pumps.

  -> Thank you, A. G. I cannot lay blame on anyone else. Does a shaft have anything but an "end face", front and back? That is, a shaft face should have sufficed unless there is more specific information as to its location.
