So, it 'rises from the whiteness to the brilliant/shining material via the same ? whiteness'? 'Permitted' just doesn't seem to make any sense here in English but I can't think of another translation for the word.

Someone help me stop thinking so literally please!

Oh, this is a description of an sculpture/installation which is a kind of long white corridor constructed of a wooden frame and white material.

Coming to this one rather late, but I do think you need to change the sentence a bit in English to get the meaning across. It is hard to tease out exactly what the subject of "ascende-se" is in this sentence, hence my low confidence level, but given that the viewer presumably passes along this corridor to experience this work of art it could mean something along the lines of:

"One rises/You rise from the whiteness to the material brightness made possible by the whiteness itself"

or

"One rises from the white to the matter of brightness that the white itself makes possible"

Tough one, without a doubt!

thank you, Gilla - yes the whole text needed a lot of thinking about. The rising referred to a quote by Kandinsky and I actually chose 'ubiquitous' for 'permitido', which I guess is a fairly free interpretation but one which seemed to make sense in the wider context.

Wow Lucy, bizarre context, eh?

There are a lot of options for permitido.....for example PERMITTED, ALLOWED, ADMITTED (as in "admitted entrance"), LEGAL, LEGITIMATE, LICIT....

The problem, of course, is that none of them really seem to make a lot of sense in English....I thought that perhaps, from the description of the installation, EMPOWERED might be an option (in the sense of "legitimately allowed")....tough call
