I have benefited greatly from many of you, but have found the website a bit complicated and I'm not sure if my thanks have reached all of you, so I hope this will reach out to all. The Listas are documents held in the Jewish Seminary Library in New York, covering Port.Inq. 1560's to 1700's, mainly handwritten. I have transcribed and indexed over some years. Working on the final volume I wanted to answer people's requests for a glossary of terms not easily found now. So most of what I have asked about are the headings to parts of the lists, rather than appearing in sentences. Thank you all so much; I will be using very much of what you have found for me. Any answers that are posted on the basis of such little information will only serve to mislead the Asker, which is why it is in one's interest as an Asker to provide full context...i.e. if you cannot translate a text without context how on earth can the answerers (Kudoz members) provide substantial answers without context?

Are you able to post some of the surrounding context to this? How the term is written into the rest of the sentence is also very important in finding the best target term.
