Gostaria de saber a melhor tradução para PICARETAS no seguinte contexto:

"Quando XXX disse que no Congresso havia 300 PICARETAS, em tom de crítica, parecia o líder político que queria mudar a maneira de governar o país. Mas quando chegou sua vez de mostrar a que veio, XXX comandou um governo que institucionalizou a corrupção para garantir apoio político, aperfeiçoando e aprofundando as técnicas que eram usadas naturalmente pelos políticos brasileiros há décadas."

Até agora a melhor opção que encontrei foi "phonies", no sentido de farsante. Alguém concorda ou apresenta alguma sugestão melhor?
