Hi everyone! I'm translating material on tiles and still having problems with this phrase. What does the 'tanto' mean? That the brothers favoured the English models and the technological models? Or that the English models were both preferred and technological? Thanks for your help!

A decisão de construir a fábrica nas Caldas da Rainha também teve importância, por ser vila com tradição cerâmica, entre a olaria e a faiança de gosto neo-Palissy, muito adequada a um gosto naturalista vigente, internacionalmente cultivada, entre outros, por Charles Jean Avisseau (1796-1861) e localmente por Manuel Cipriano Gomes (1829-1905).
Para preparação deste projeto, os irmãos Rafael e Feliciano Bordalo Pinheiro visitaram em 1884 centros cerâmicos de França, Bélgica e Inglaterra, tomando conhecimento das tecnologias e das estruturas funcionais modernas. Neste âmbito ***os modelos ingleses foram os preferidos tanto os tecnológicos***, com fornos em garrafa, como nas cerâmicas a comercializar, referindo-se nos estatutos que se produziriam “(…) produtos de cerâmica ornamental e de revestimento e louça do tipo que se manufacturava nas Caldas, objetos da mais fina faiança estampada com gravuras originais para usos ordinários e louça ordinária para os usos das classes menos abastadas (…)”. A Fábrica iniciou atividade com materiais de construção em 1884, louça decorativa no ano seguinte e louça utilitária apenas em 1888.

agree  Roberto Mors: Right on! The word "tanto" here works together with the word "como" ("como nas cerâmicas...). "tanto" should be translated as "both" and "como", as "and".
