Sure, my old Aurélio tells me that. Apparently, the Pt and Sp words come from the Catalán "corondell"
Aurélio says "parte da composição em medida mais estreita do que a da página ou coluna, e destinada a vestir ilustração; recorrido."

BTW, "defesa" means the minimum clear space that should be left around a graphic element, logo or illustration.

That's a tough one. I give up :(

Corondel -- in Spanish! -- also "regleta", means the spacing between columns, with or without a line ("fio" or "filete" in Portuguese). That old term was later replaced by "medianil" or "intercolumnado". Now, that would be "gutter" in English; "calha" or "medianiz" in Portuguese.
So it is a different thing.

I also found runaround for corondel, which seems to be the translation of the usage you refer to. This is certainly an earlier usage than 'text wrap', according to a printer I asked - but not one that seems as unlikely to be understood in the way that the text implies.
