In the video here, the loop that is called "um pedal" in Portuguese is called "an ascender" in English. There are a few other links between here and there that got me to "ascender," so I think it's valid. The English video in the link above goes through a lot of specific terminology (pressik, sling), but "ascender" is the most general for every piece of gear that is getting you up the rope. Without more context I don't know what "fortuna" is referring to. I think it's saying basically "you either use an ascender to rescue yourself, or you get lucky." I don't know anything about climbing myself, but I talked it over with my friend and researched for a good while to come up with this. |
