It's clearly a name for plover in English, though "maçarico" is also plover - though as others have pointed out, the two can be synonymous - or not. I would just use one word for both.

I don't think you can go wrong with 'plovers'.

Talvez seja o caso de achá-los todos em inglês pelo nome científico e ver se algum deles entra em contato com o falcão-de-coleira. Talvez seja o segundo, cujo nome científico inclui a palavra collaris.

Esta realmente é difícil
Pelo que pesquisei (um dos documentos encontrados é indicado) parece-me que a batuíra de coleira (Collared plover) é/era comum na Ilha Comprida; no entanto também encontrei várias referências a batuíra de bando (Semipalmated plover) e sendo assim não consigo indicar uma tradução com 100% de certeza.
Espero pelo menos ter ajudado um pouco.

No entanto pelo que vi batuíra (plover) poderá ser a família/nome geral de tais espécies assim como os vários tipos de maçaricos existentes (maçarico-galego, maçarico-real, maçarico-solitário, etc).
