Romanian term or phrase: când se reclama
I am a bit lost about what this verb is describing here. I understand "se reclama" can be translated in various ways into English, and am unsure of its meaning here. The context reads:

" ... cu apariția dificilelor partituri wagneriene, brahmsiene, mahleriene ș.a., când se reclama un conducător de orchestră anume specializat, cum nu mai fusese înainte, care să se dedice exclusiv profesiunii de dirijor

which required a .../where a ... was needed
Explanation:
Hi Lara. I think this means smth. along the lines of "where a specialized conductor was required" (roughly). To rephrase the Romanian:"unde se impunea", "unde se cerea", etc.

My two cents.

Nope, it has no connection with the other meanings :-)

I would use the word "demand" in the translation: "at a time when there was a (great) demand/want/need for a conductor...."

Note to reference poster
Asker: Thank you so much for this. I am aware that it means required/needed but was confused because similar words relate to "advertising" and also to "reclaiming". I am therefore finding it difficult to find the connection with these meanings, and therefore the root of the word.
