Programul CIP, inițiat de Biblioteca Congresului din Washington - Statele Unite ale Americii, se desfășoară în numeroase țări printre care Marea Britanie, Germania, Rusia, Canada, Brazilia.

La nivel naţional, Programul CIP este un program de colaborare între editurile din România si Biblioteca Națională a României - Centrul Național CIP, în vederea semnalării viitoarelor apariții editoriale.
