Поэтому я бы сказала: the distance from the exit from the premises of each group to the main exit or staircase...

А так как в наших детских садах exit - он же и entrance, то можно написать: the distance from the entrance to the premises of each group to the main exit or staircase...

agree  OlyaBorovski: looks like a paragraph from a building code; most definitely a cluster of spaces where a group of children spends a part of their day. however, it is important to note that a word "exit" must be used as it is a fire safety code having to do with exiting.

  -> Thank you! "Групповая ячейка" is an architectural term. The children spend most of their day there, except for the time outside (in the playground) and music classes. I agree about "exit", but suggested "entrance" for a better sounding phrase.

IMO, сюда просится unit. В виде, например, "childcare unit".

Хотя бы по аналогии с apartment unit или lodging unit, куда входят не только жилые комнаты, но и кухня, санузел и пр.

Поскольку коллеги указали на возможное смещение смысла (childcare unit = д/с в целом), то предлагаю дополнить словосочетание до "childcare classroom unit" или "daycare classroom unit". Вот здесь пишут о неком тесте на плесень в передвижных классах, которые в тексте также называются unit: http://www.starnewsonline.com/article/20130926/ARTICLES/1309... То есть unit в этом смысле имеет право на существование.

Или вообще уйти от unit и написать что-то вроде classroom &/with facilities :), если общий контекст позволяет не упоминать д/с в обязательно порядке.

Группа в значении "помещение" называется classroom. Вот гугл-запрос на с/с childcare classroom: https://www.google.ru/search?q=daycare classroom&ie=utf-8&oe...
Примерно то же выходит на daycare classroom и preschool classroom.

neutral  Tatyana Osyka: Вариант вполне мог бы подойти, но, если посмотреть, что такое Childcare unit в Интернете, то видно, что это учреждение в целом, а не помещение для одной группы детей, т.е. термин может иметь несколько значений. Ссылки для примера - в дискуссии.
