Russian term or phrase: отношение
It is in an article about an artist, and is explained thus:
В философии есть такая категория – «отношение»; ею меряется самобытие человека в мире, который ему дан на прочтение в течение жизни.

If it helps, this was preceded by:
Рассуждая об автопортретах вообще и об особенно пристальном к ним внимании XXX, об их, совершенно очевидно, особенном месте в контексте его творчества, невозможно не придти к выводу, что, по самому большому счету, каждая картина художника – художника вообще – это и есть его автопортрет.

Subsequent lines don't add anything extra.

Can anyone tell me what is the correct philosophical term equivalent to отношение? I've hunted round, but drawn a blank so far.
Many thanks in advance for any help.

Maybe "attitude (frame) of mind" or "position" would also do

Several existing theories of the nature of philosophical categories are considered to be essentially correct but not entirely consistent; so direct translation may be not the best option for the given context.

The required term also appears as “Relation”

self-consciousness

Explanation:
Maybe it is self-consciousness, since the text is about self-portraits of the artist. Self-consciousness in this case carries a positive meaning, not preoccupying by himself but trying to undersdand reality

human relation to the world

personal identity

Explanation:
This individual identity is a property (or set of properties). Presumably it is one you have only contingently: you might have had a different identity from the one you in fact have. It is also a property that you may have only temporarily: you could swap your current individual identity for a new one, or perhaps even get by without any. (Ludwig 1997 is a typical discussion of this topic.)

Another intuitively appealing view, championed by John Locke, holds that personal identity is a matter of psychological continuity. According to this view, in order for a person X to survive a particular adventure, it is necessary and sufficient that there exists, at a time after the adventure, a person Y who psychologically evolved out of X. This idea is typically cashed out in terms of overlapping chains of direct psychological connections, as those causal and cognitive connections between beliefs, desires, intentions, experiential memories, character traits, and so forth

извините слезно!!! Я влепил комментарий “широко распространенный перевод афоризма Эзопа“ не в тот ответ: он должен был быть про мух, что летят больше на мед, нежели на уксус. Ошибочка’с!
