flow Explanation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flow_(psychology) In positive psychology, a flow state, also known colloquially as being in the zone, is the mental state in which a person performing some activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In essence, flow is characterized by the complete absorption in what one does, and a resulting transformation in one's sense of time. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 23 mins (2021-01-06 21:41:08 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Might be another way of describing it: https://www.alpinabook.ru/blog/sostoyanie-potoka-chto-eto-i-... |

(state of) active engagement, deep/focused immersion Explanation: Other layman options: completely/fully immersed/involved/taken by/ absorbed, highly engaged. Not sure there's a definite term (in English) where Csiksentmihalyi's flow and positive psychology are concerned, as most layman articles seem to explain захваченность, rather than use a specific term. "A psychologist in the early 1990s came up with a concept called flow. It’s when you become **fully engaged** in a challenging activity you enjoy. You shut out the rest of the world and even lose track of time." "Want to increase your well-being, creativity, and productivity? If so, you might want to cultivate flow, a concept describing those moments when you’re **completely absorbed** in a challenging but doable task." https://positivepsychology.com/mihaly-csikszentmihalyi-fathe... "In positive psychology, a flow state, also known colloquially as being in the zone, is the mental state in which a person performing some activity is **fully immersed** in a feeling of **energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity**. Maybe these, especially the latter, will work best for you and making sure they're the right ones shouldn't be too difficult. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/240276785_Is_It_Alr... There's also "cognitive absorption," but this term seems to have arisen post-Csiksentmihalyi and is used in relation to e-learning. "Cognitive Absorption (CA) is a model that has been used to explain experiences that are deeply immersive and enjoyable, under which lasting learning can occur (Agarwal, et al., 2000).... Cognitive absorption hinges on there being sufficiently complex and engaging stimuli." |

grip (being gripped) Explanation: https://1library.net/document/yeo0nkrq-download-download-pdf... Artemy MagunEuropean University at Saint Petersburg, Smolny College, Saint Petersburg State University The Concept of Event in the Philosophy of Vladimir Bibikhin 4 Translator’s note: a central motif in this essay is the etymological link between zakhvachennost’ (“being gripped,” a translation of Heidegger’s Ergriffenheit) and zakhvat (“seizure,” as in the seizure of land, property, or power). I am consistent in these English renderings throughout, but when disambiguation is necessary, I have included the original Russian in parentheses For more details, see the Reference section. |

Artemy Magun European University at Saint Petersburg, Smolny College, Saint Petersburg State University The Concept of Event in the Philosophy of Vladimir Bibikhin page 9 Heidegger has some similar notions, such as spirit, decisiveness, authenticity, and most directly Ergriffenheit, a “grip” that describes the action of affect and mood (Stimmung, attunement: (Heidegger 2008: 7–8, 181, etc.), cf. the article of Alexander Pogrebnyak in this issue, Pogrebnyak 2015). But generally Heidegger is less preoccupied with the issue of human beings’ historical engagement (as opposed to apathy and cynicism): for Heidegger it is more important to be open to an indeterminate future than to participate in an event. In this sense, Bibikhin’s philosophy has a more ethico-political sounding. His accent on “grip” (zakhvachennost) is actually closer to Badiou’s notion of fidelity than to Heidegger. http://stasisjournal.net/index.php/journal/issue/view/5 https://books.google.ru/books?id=KRvbgNhFUZ0C&pg=PT128&lpg=P... Both the concepts and the questions to which they belong are 'anchored' in a 'being-gripped', or 'seized' (Ergriffenheit) by something. |
