neutral  Katia Brys: Een cirque is de Franse benaming voor een keteldal, maar het is duidelijk dat het in uw tekst gaat over de (cirkelvormige) bergformatie die het dal omgeeft. Je kan het hier niet echt door bergketen vertalen, want die loopt niet noodzakelijk in cirkelvorm!

  -> ik denk juist dat 'cirque' in het Frans ook 'cirkelvormige bergformatie rond een keteldal' betekent, net zoals circo in het Spaans en circ in het Catalaans (wat vermoedelijk de oorspronkelijke taal van de tekst was, omdat het om Vall de Núria gaat...)

Volgens mij klopt er iets niet in die Spaanse tekst.
El valle de Núria está rodeada por un ***circo montañoso*** etc. Volgens mij kan dat niet. Cirque of circo (kaar) is een depressie, een soort trechter in de bergen en naar mijn bescheiden mening kan zoiets niet 'rodear'. Succes.

Explanation:
Het was Van Dale die me de vertaling uit het Frans (cirque-keteldal) heeft gegeven, maar het gaat hier over Spaans en Nederlands, dus als we gewoon ons gezond verstand gebruiken, gaat het hier inderdaad over cirkelvormige bergformatie of een creatiever alternatief!
