Probablemente es un error tipográfico y se trata de "cucurbitáceas".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cucurbitaceae
Cucurbitaceae is a family of plants including the melon, cucumber, calabash, squash, and luffa. It is one of the most important families of food plants in the world, although certainly not nearly as important as the grass family, Poaceae, legume family, Fabaceae, or Nightshade family, Solanaceae.

The family Cucurbitaceae is well represented in the tropics of south America and Africa. Its is also quite prevalent in the moist to moderately dry areas of north America and Europe.

agree  Nikki Graham: I agree with your interpretation, but I would say: cucurbits
3 hrs
  -> Yes, depends on context, that´s the scientific name for the family. I will add a note. Thanks, Nikki.

agree  Rachel Fell: and with Nikki , probably, dep. on context
4 hrs
  -> Thanks, Rachel.

agree  Catalina Connon

  -> Gracias, bariloche.

agree  John Speese: Cucurbitaceae or cucurbits is probably what it is supposed to be. Most plant families end in the suffix -aceae.
4 hrs
  -> Thanks, John. That´s the standard suffix for plant families according to international nomenclature rules.
