Science - Botany / Colombia
Spanish term or phrase: tuno (Miconio sp.)
It just appears in a list of trees appearing in the Andes of Colombia. I've found conflicting ID's for this plant ranging from a rubber tree that gives off a non-elastic rubber (Panama rubber tree or Central American Rubber tree) to a woody tree used for furniture (based on the Miconio sp and with a different common name than tuno). So, what I really need to know is specifically what they would be referring to in Colombian Spanish. Also, it is possible that the Latin name is a typo. It may actually be MiconiA instead of MiconiO.

Thanks for your help!

miconia

Explanation:
In Colombia, it seems most likely to be one of the "miconia" e.g.
MICONIA SQUAMULOSA - TUNO

In Honduras, and some other places, "tuno" is "Poulsenia armata".

agree  Charles Davis: I would go for "miconia". There are many species, and it would take a huge amount of research to establish which are trees and are called "tuno", but "miconia" is used as a common name.
