Both Explanation: But that is my personal way of doing it: I put the original (Spanish in your case) first and the translation between brackets for the sake of the client's understanding. Other colleagues prefer to leave the original name alone. Let's see their opinion. Claudia |

ask your customer Explanation: There are really three possibilities: - Leave proper names and awards in the original language - Leave them in the original language followed by a [translator's note in brackets] - Translate them into the target language with no reference to the original language (probably the least common) Which path you take really depends upon customer preference and/or the intended purpose of the document. The safest thing is to ask. Good luck! |

Leave them in the original Explanation: When I worked for a UN branch in India, the Editors had insisted that I leave the original and then add the translation after the original in brackets. That way there can be no misunderstanding. All the best Sonia |

Name of University in Spanish (translation in brackets) / Translate awards & prizes Explanation: El nombre de una universidad es un nombre propio, por lo tanto, corresponde que lo dejes en su idioma original y, en todo caso, se puede incluir una traducción entre paréntesis. Con respecto a los premios, conviene traducirlos y, dentro lo posible, hacer una referencia al premio, es decir, indicar de qué se trata, cuál es su importancia, etc, etc. |
