subsidy Explanation: In the sample sentence provided, I'd probably just translate it as subsidy, unless there was a pressing reason to expand upon it. It is a type of subsidy, sometimes translated as "non-refundable subsidy", or "sinking fund" as in phil's reference, although I must admit that's a new one on me. Although commonly extended from government, the term subsidy can relate to any type of support – for example from NGOs or as implicit subsidies. Perhaps it depends on the culture you come from - I've never thought of subsidies having to be paid back, perceiving them as more like a grant than anything else. Example sentence(s):
