Arg. proponer diligencias US Am.: do move for a preliminary investigation Explanation: possibly shorthand for 'proponer la práctica de diligencias previas'. Oddly, this is case where I can think of a US or Canadian phrase, rather than an English equivalent. diligencias previas D.P. - ESP preliminary investigation / of a crime > West UK: enquiry vs. an inquest; USA: inquiry. Otherwise, the weasel-word of diligencia can mean *action taken* in a notarial sign-off, step or proceeding taken. Example sentence(s):

(hereby) make complaint and wish charges to be brought/to press charges Explanation: This may perhaps be too UK-slanted for the Americas but that is what I understand Obviously prosecutors decide ultimately whether or noy to press charges but I have seen this phrase on the end of victims' police statements |
