Las principales figuras impositivas en Australia a nivel federal se detallan a continuación:

Impuesto sobre la renta (income tax): desde un punto de vista recaudatorio, el impuesto más importante en Australia es el impuesto sobre la renta. Este viene regulado en las leyes fiscales Income Tax Assessment Act de 1936, Income Tax Assessment Act de 1997 y Taxation Administration Act de 1953. Se trata de un impuesto directo que grava la renta obtenida por las personas físicas y jurídicas, ya sean residentes como no residentes. A los no residentes se les gravan las rentas obtenidas de fuentes australianas. En el caso de las personas física el tipo de gravamen aplicable dependerá del tramo de la escala impositiva en la que se encuentre la base liquidable. El tipo marginal máximo aplicable es del 45%. La escala de gravamen aplicable a los no residentes es distinta y contiene menos tramos. Por su parte, a las empresas se les aplica un tipo impositivo único del 30% ya sean residentes o no. Las empresas con una facturación inferior a los 25.000.000 AUD y que no supere un 80% de rentas pasivas se les aplica un tipo único del 27,50%.

Impuesto sobre ganancias de capital (capital gains tax): este impuesto grava en general cualquier ganancia de capital realizada mediante la venta de activos -tangibles o intangibles- por parte de una persona física o jurídica tanto si es residente como no residente. Este impuesto se liquida como parte del impuesto sobre la renta y los tipos impositivos aplicables son los mismos que en el impuesto general sobre la renta.

Impuesto sobre bienes y servicios (goods and service tax): es un impuesto indirecto al consumo que grava la venta de bienes y servicios (también importados). Es el equivalente al IVA. El tipo de gravamen aplicable es único del 10% y algunos bienes y servicios -como alimentación, educación, salud y exportaciones- están exentos de gravamen. Las empresas o individuos que tengan un negocio con una facturación superior a un importe determinado han de registrarse en la ATO para la liquidación de este impuesto.

Impuestos especiales (excise taxes): en Australia hay impuestos especiales sobre el alcohol, el tabaco, el combustible y los productos derivados del petróleo que se producen o fabrican en Australia. Los impuestos especiales los liquida el fabricante o el distribuidor.

On 16 October 2020, Spain published Law No. 4/2020 of 15 October 2020 and Law No. 5/2020 of 15 October 2020 in the Official Gazette, which provide for the introduction of the Digital Services Tax (DST) and the Financial Transactions Tax (FTT), respectively. Both laws enter into force 3 months after their publication, i.e., 16 January 2020, with certain transitional provisions.
