Tech/Engineering - Metallurgy / Casting / manufacture of pipes
Spanish term or phrase: transformación
I'm looking for the English equivalent of "transformación." The document is talking about "trasnformar" pipes from x65 to x70. This seems to be a string of e-mails from several countries and I think some of the people writing in Spanish are thinking in English or Portuguese, so I can't say where this document originated.

"los tubos serían transformados de un x 65 a un x70"

"El material fue transformado por [xxx] y es quien emite los certificados"

"Pero a la vez se coordino una conferencia con los presentes en la cual se les explico el proceso de transformación de X-65 a X-70"

"Quizá el criterio por conveniencia es limitado pero la tubería que insisten que es X-65 fue transformada a X-70" [sorry - the quality of the source doc is not good]

Explanation:
transformation could be used, transformed as well. I prefer converted since it is converting the diameter , a measurement, and also is a process, as in the conversion of hot ore into solid metal.

changed

Explanation:
We don't know without more context whether they're being rebuilt or just exchanged for different ones, though I think the former is more likely. "Changed" covers both possibilities.

agree  neilmac: Am no authority, but your explanation seems sound and convert/transform is what I'd have used.

One pipeline operator reported that they were laying a line of X65 PSL 2 pipe. They were using X65 / X70 dual grade pipe in the line. They were audited by the pipeline regulatory agency (PHMSA) and all of their welding documentation referenced qualification of API Grade X65, PSL 2. Since the pipe was X65 / X70 and each grade is required to be qualified separately, the auditor would not accept the X65 documentation.

Perhaps, something along the lines of “upgrade(d)” as pipes would have to be ‘qualified separately’.

HTH!
