Spanish term or phrase: giro
Hi everyone,

I'm not sure how to translate 'giro' here. I realise this appears quite a bit in the glossary but I'm not sure any of the entries would be appropriate for this context. This is for a Mexican text on blast furnaces. Here are a couple of sentences for more context:

Instalación de material refractario en duelas del giro 15, bajo la junta de expansión de la armadura fija

Instalación de concreto refractario entre la coraza y las duelas entre lo giros 5 y 13

Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Internal Blocks/RingsInternal blocks or rings are commonly used in a variety of non-ferrous furnaces as well as in some iron blast furnaces [14]. They are blocks of copper that are placed within the refractory. These blocks may encircle a cylindrical furnace section as rings, they may be long straight sections or as small, isolated blocks scattered throughout the furnace. Cooling may be either internal or external to the furnace. Internal block coolers have a number of potential problems, particularly if the cooling is internal to the furnace. In this case water leakage can occur as the blocks age, giving the risk of a steam explosion. More commonly, the use of this form of cooling leads to extremely uneven wear, as the cooling is very localized with the low thermal 145
conductivity of the refractories limiting its effectiveness. While the uneven wear can be countered by decreasing the spacing between the blocks, the amount of copper required can make this approach uneconomical.

In case of bell less top generally two types of distribution namely (i) ring type (single ring type, multi-ring type, and (ii) fixed point type, are used. In case of ring type distribution material in the burden hopper is charged into the furnace by distributing chute through concentric ring (single ring) or multi concentric rings (multi ring). In case of single ring type distribution, the distributing chute remains at the same designated tilting angle while charging. In case of multi-ring distribution, the tilting angle can be changed many times while charging. One circle or multi-circle distribution at each angle position can be done. In case of fixed type distribution, the distribution chute is positioned as per designated tilting angle for distributing material to a designated point. Sector distribution can also be done with bell less top charging equipment. Normally nitrogen gas is used for the purpose of equalization.

UPPER STACK AND THROAT ARMOUR
The upper stack and throat armour are critical for burden descent. Blast furnace efficiency and productivity are compromised if burden descent is affected by failure of the upper stack and throat armour. An example of such a failure is shown in Figure 10.
This particular failure was catalysed by malfunctioning top sprays and the fact that the upper stack refractory rings can collapse in series if the interlocking of the bricks is destroyed at one location. Similar failures have been observed at many plants.

Working with the concept of 'stave coolers', I'm practically positive that 'giro' is a row of coolers. The photo in the reference I'm posting now will give you an idea.

Ring is a good enough translation I think.

In addition to copper staves installed in the taphole area, the furnace will be equipped with a full ring of copper stave coolers in the upper hearth.

Thanks for your help and all your references - you're right that it's tricky without more context, I wish I could give more, but there really isn't any!
