Spanish term or phrase: Polígono
Hi everyone,

Any ideas how I can distinguish this from "parcela" and "partida" in a table about a finca. They are just headers for columns under which are numbers. I see "polygon" is an option, but can't find any sources to back this up. For the moment, I have opted for "plot" for "parcela".

Cheers,
Nick

Notes to answerer
Asker: Hi Matt, do you not think that might confusion with "finca"? From what I can see it is just an area within a "finca" or am I missing something? Is it the built-up bit of the finca?

Asker: Unfortunately, I really can't give more context. It's just a table and in the column "polígano" is a list of numbers. If you do to the cadastre, the information they give is "parcela" and "polígano": LocationPolígono 21 Parcela 60

agree  neilmac: Changing my previous neutral comment, because "estate" is often the right translation, although usually with several houses rather than just one, in my case.

-> "Estate" with a single property conjures up an image of stately home/country pile to me, but then again I haven't seen your house!

polygon

Explanation:
This is the common term used in GIS applications and surveyor's reports. Due to the growing use of GIS, it is quickly being adopted by other agencies.

unit /plot or parcel of land

Explanation:
Defined as "superficie que constituye una unidad urbanística...", "unit" is probably the best choice in this context.
Although "poligono industrial" translates as industrial estate in UK English, in the query context it refers to the plots of land for building. I know this because my address is "Poligono Veinte"...
It is partially synonymous with "finca", which is loosely used to mean a sort of larger area divided into plots or parcels. If you're already using "plot" for "parcela", I'd probably just use "polygon" or "unit" to avoid confusion.
Having said that, I must admit that it is often translated as "estate", but that is sometimes not the best translation in my opinion.

In fact, if the "polygon" has several dwellings or buildings on it, I'd be quite happy to call it an estate, but the one I live in is an individual unit or plot.

Based on Althea's definition ("Polígono: División del terreno... ), "division" could also be an option, although I stand by my suggestion of unit or polygon...

You can see how the land is segmented if you go to this site here, move to the more rural areas of the map, and zoom in and out -
https://www1.sedecatastro.gob.es/Cartografia/mapa.aspx?refca...

If you click on one of the rural areas, you'll be given a breakdown of the polígono, parcela etc.

Each 'polígono' is marked in purplish blue. Within this you'll see each parcel or plot, and then within that again you'll see the individual properties.

The other reference below gives another definition
