This is from a text by an Argentine contemporary artist who, in a certain period of his work (the 1990s) used a lot of Catholic imaginary. I think it is getting at a tradition related to the salvation army, but of course not exactly that...a more general concept is at play here. But I am not sure what it is!
La aparición de este imaginario nos demanda ayuda, nos moviliza empatía, nos pide cuidado, nos demuestra capaces de escuchar eso que pide afecto, por tanto también nos recuerda que podemos protegerlo para garantizar la experiencia de una vida en común. Una actitud que en el universo de sentidos de XXXX puede parecerse al ejercicio servicial que moviliza el estado profundo de su conciencia espirituosa ante “los más lastimados”.

I can't see any mix-up of the question with military service > 'ejército'.

I doubt servicial has the dictionary meaning of helpful, 'obliging' or 'accommodating' here, rather of service to the priesthood etc.
