Buenas, gente. Este término se usa en una serie de videos que tengo que subtitular. Se trata de una persona que habla sobre su historia personal. Se graduó de la universidad, a diferencia de su padre. En un momento, dice: "Mi padre siempre me decía: 'Estudiá, no hagas como yo, que desde los 18 años empecé a renegar y no paré más. No renegués, metele al estudio'".
Necesitaría ayuda o una idea de cómo podría traducir la palabra "renegar" al inglés.
Sé que ya se ha analizado la palabra en cuestión en este foro, pero, a mi parecer, tenía un sentido muy distinto.

Explanation:
Entiendo que el padre se refiere dificultades en general o un desgano hacia el estudio (probablemente queriendo comenzar a trabajar apenas alcanzó la mayoría de edad) que no quiere que su hijo repita.

Y demás, podría quedar una bella aliteración en la segunda oración: "Don't struggle, study".

Asker: Hola, Juan. Me gusta esta opción. El problema es que el padre del hablante no tuvo la opción de estudiar. Me parece que "renegar" en este caso va más por el lado de pasarla mal, de sufrir.
