Não entendi bem o contexto. Quer dizer, de como o verbo "chistar", precisamente nesta forma, no infinitivo, entra no trecho a traduzir: pois me pareceu que o exemplo dado, do papagaio, não é tal trecho...

Uso a barra duplicada para separar possibilidades de sentidos diferentes.
Numa, condiz com a definição que você colocou: murmurar.
Na outra, vai mais no sentido que os colegas já colocaram e, portanto, ficam como opções. É verdade que há uma diferença entre "resmungar" e "esbravejar". Mas ambas se aproximam mais entre si se postas em relação ao "murmurar".
