INNATISMO
Las teorías innatistas declaran que el sujeto dispone de un repertorio de características, habilidades, conductas o conocimientos no aprendidos. Las filosofías innatistas refieren lo innato fundamentalmente al conocimiento, defendiendo que hay ciertos conceptos que la mente encuentra ya en sí misma y que no dependen del aprendizaje; un ejemplo típico es el de las ideas innatas defendidas por los racionalistas.
En psicología, el innatismo se ha referido tradicionalmente a la existencia de habilidades y conductas supuestamente no aprendidas Aunque en algunos casos parezca claro que existe lo innato -instintos, reflejos y pautas fijas de acción, por ejemplo- el problema estriba en encontrar los límites de lo innato y lo aprendido. Es precisamente en este punto donde se sitúa la polémica ambientalismo/innatismo que enfrentó, por ejemplo, al conductismo y la etología. La psicología cognitiva también reivindica la existencia de elementos cognoscitivos -y no sólo conductuales- no aprendidos, destacando en esta reivindicación los "universales lingüísticos" a los que se refiere Chomsky.
