3 | completely square plan |

completely square plan Explanation: on a completely square plan -- or a perfectly square plan Not my field of specialisation, admittedly, but as I understand it, this means that the plan on the ground was completely square - no odd angles, porches, bay windows etc. Th architect could then design his building ´sculpturally´ from there. (Reminds me of the discussions about an art gallery in Århus, which was quite controversial when it was built. That is square or cubic, and was called ´sculptural´ among other things.) |

from a shape which is completely square on the horizontal Explanation: (The point is that it is square horizontally but not necessarily vertically.) -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 5 hrs (2010-11-06 15:56:08 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- (Also, two different floors might not have the same dimensions, although if the author had intended to say this he probably would have said it explicitly.) |
