English translation: Colour and form

Swedish term or phrase: Färg och form
...att arbeta med färg och form...
This is a tricky one, because the literal translation would be "working with colours and shapes" or similar, however, this common Swedish expression relates more to the overall topic of which both design elements are merely members, so to speak, rather than each of the individual words.
Does anyone have any clever ideas? This is mostly directed towards native English speakers or people who have an extremely advanced command of the English language. Or who just happen to know the answer to this one...

English translation:Colour and form
Explanation:
It really is this simple, I think. You could go off on various tangents and talk about design and shape and so forth, but colour and form sums it up perfectly. While it is something of a Swedish expression, the term 'colour and form' does come up quite a lot in English as well when talking about visual arts. Hope this helps!

You can really just search "colour and form" (with the inverted commas so you get those words in that order) and see it used extensively, but here are a couple of examples. The examples are quite specific but an online search will reveal it’s used in all kinds of ways with regard to visual arts.
