own Explanation: This is strictly a U.S. English suggestion, as I don't know what the Brits would do with this. It's very common over here to assert that an American-style football team "owned the field" during a game. See the link for some examples. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 25 mins (2012-01-10 20:22:51 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Annabel, I'd go with "Mackan Rules" in the book title. "Own" wouldn't be used in a title, IMO, even as "Mackan Owns The Pitch". And "Mackan Rules" has a nice double meaning to it, implying that it's REALLY his game.
