If it's not a technical term (or a term defined by the author and used in a particular technical sense within his or her philosophy), this should work fine enough.

However, if it is a technical term, you will probably need a more literal translation. In this regard, Charles' proposal is interesting (and could perhaps be clarified as "world of mental associations"). If it is a technical term, it is likely that the author is elsewhere using related words such as "associera" ("associate"), "associering" ("association") etc. and the relation between all these words should then, if possible, also be clear in the translation. For instance, it is difficult to see the philosophical relationship between the verb "to associate (x with y)" and "mental universe".
