agree  Christine Andersen: Adjust the grammar if necessary, but singular ´their´ is often the least clumsy way of saying it in informal language. (And it IS used as often as split infinitives...)

  -> thanks - yes, singular 'their' is fine colloquially, and I acquired it naturally in childhood, but I do avoid it in formal written contexts.
